Potable Water Treatment

The supply of good potable water is one of today's major global challenges. The natural water resources that can be used as potable water without further treatment are very limited. We are dedicated to treating available water resources using suitable methods in such a way that potable water of best quality is achieved. To do so, we are able to utilize a broad portfolio of all important potable water treatment technologies.

The Challenge

The public, as well as private, supply of chemically, physically and hygienically sound potable water is one of the major global challenges these days. Natural water resources that can be used as potable water without further treatment are very limited. ProMinent supports its customers in coping with this challenge. The Requirements

Potable water for human consumption has to comply with high standards regarding its chemistry, physics and hygiene. These standards are defined globally by the potable water standards issued by WHO (World Health Organization) as well as similar individual standards in Europe and Germany. These standards do not differ much from each other. In general, all define that potable water must be:

  • clear
  • neutral in smell and taste
  • not too salty
  • physiologically and hygienically sound

Public water suppliers e.g. villages, communities or cities as well as private water suppliers e.g. hotels or industries have to ensure their potable water supply is complying with these attributes.

Methods for Potable Water Treatment

Unfortunately, natural water resources like groundwater or water originating from lakes, rivers or seas rarely comply with these attributes. As a result, it is necessary to treat these waters should they be considered for potable water supply. The main treatment methods, among others, are:

  • flocculation
  • sedimentation
  • oxidation
  • filtration
  • adsorption
  • desalination
  • disinfection

Depending on the specific requirements we combine these methods in the optimum way to offer to our customers the best solution possible for potable water treatment, both technologically and economically.

Processes in Potable Water Treatment

Desalination of brackish water and seawater

A shortage of potable water throughout the world is a major problem today. Only 0.03% of the world’s water is suitable potable water for human use. For many countries, a solution to this problem is desalination of brackish or seawater through reverse osmosis.


Disinfection of Potable Water

A steadily growing world population is facing a resource that is becoming constantly scarcer: hygienicly clean potable water. This scarce resource may soon become a luxury item. However, there exists a large range of procedures to disinfect and render water potable. ProMinent is competent with virtually all availables potable water treatment technologies.

Product Overview Potable Water Supply

OZONFILT® OZMa Ozone Plant

Capacity range 70 to 735 g/h
Range of universal compact ozone plants. Air or oxygen is used as the operating gas.


OZONFILT® OZVa Ozone Plant

Capacity range 5 to -90 g/h
Range of universal compact ozone plants. Air or oxygen is used as the operating gas.


Bono Zon® Ozone Plant

Capacity range 80 – 720 g/h (larger plants on request)
A range of compact ozone plants with integrated gas conditioning application. Bono Zon® plants work using positive suction pressure and are therefore particularly reliable.


Dulcosmose® Reverse Osmosis Systems

Reverse Osmosis is the reversal of the natural osmosis process. This process is used to desalinate aqueous solutions. Using suitable high-performance membranes it is possible today to remove more than 99% of all salts from an aquaeous solution.


Storage Tanks

Nominal capacity 500 litres to 50 m³
Standardized and customer-specific storage tanks and drip pans of polyethylene, on demand, with accessories e.g. filling devices, heatings for the storage medium, devices for optical and electronic level monitoring, air scrubbers etc.


Dosing Systems

By the use of dosing systems the dosing task becomes increasingly easier. Pre-mounted complete solutions made by ProMinent are immediately available and ready for the use in important applications of dosage. Sensor technology, controllers and metering pumps form a unit with the necessary tanks and are ready for operation without installation work.


Measuring, Control and Sensor Technology

We describe the use of measuring and control technologies for fluid dosing as “intelligent dosing”. Using the right measuring and control technology can help to substantially optimize metering of fluid chemicals.


INTERFILT® SK Gravity Filter

Filter capacity: 6.5 to 642 m³/h
The SK Gravity Filter is suitable for practically all filtration tasks and known by its ingeniously simple and extremely economical functionality.


Chlorine Dioxide In Water Treatment

ProMinent Chlorine dioxide is an extremely reactive gas, which – because of its instability – cannot be stored, and must only be produced in the required quantities in special plants on the site where it is to be used. Chlorine dioxide offers a number of advantages for water disinfection compared with chlorine, the disinfectant mainly used
